On the morning of February 21st, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism updated the latest points in the plan to welcome international visitors, expected to be applied from March 15th.

This is a proposal from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, consulted with ministries and sectors before officially being announced. Accordingly, visitors can come to Vietnam by land, sea and regular international flights, instead of only by air as in the pilot program.

Regarding entry regulations, visitors from 12 years old to Vietnam must have a certificate that they have been vaccinated with at least 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine or that they have been cured from the virus. A negative test result for nCoV is required, but the quick test method is accepted within 24 hours as well as RT-PCR 72 hours before departure. Health insurance that covers Covid-19 treatment is reduced to $10,000 instead of $20,000 as in the phase 2 of the pilot program..

After entering the country, visitors traveling by air take a quick test at their place of accommodation and receive the results within 24 hours. Travelers traveling by land or by sea are tested quickly at the border gate. Children under 12 years old, elderly people over 65 years old who have not been vaccinated can enter the country, but must be accompanied by a guardian, and they must follow the regulations on testing and purchasing health insurance. After receiving a negative result, they can travel freely. On the other hand, positive cases are isolated and treated accordingly.

Visitors need to install the Covid-19 app and stay connected during their stay in Vietnam. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also proposes to exempt entry visas like before 2020.

After entering Vietnam, visitors can travel as domestic visitors according to regulations, without testing, except for cases of epidemiological investigation showing that they come from regions 3 and 4 of Vietnam. Currently, localities are required to announce the opening of tourism activities and welcome visitors according to each epidemic level.

Regarding communication, VNAT continues to promote the "Live Fully In Vietnam" campaign and works with CNN, CNBC... to promote Vietnam to target markets. In the near future, Vietnamese tourism will participate in international fairs in Northeast Asia, Europe, especially Russia to promote products to these markets.

"Improving the competitiveness of the main destinations not only in price but also in the quality of services and products. Therefore, preparation is key. This year the tourism industry strives to welcome 65 million visitors, of which there are 5 million international visitors," said Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh. In 2021, Vietnam will provide services to 40 million domestic visitors and 3,800 international visitors under the basis of the pilot program with vaccine passports.

The government agreed to reopen all tourism activities on March 15, ministries and sectors are now coordinating to develop detailed instructions.
